Doran Binks’ Swanson Leads Wire to Wire
In Mission Foods No. 77 and Pads Points Lead
As Series Makes First Visit to Jennerstown Speedway

JENNERSTOWN, Pa., Aug. 11 — The USAC Silver Crown series’ first event ever on Jennerstown Speedway’s 0.522-mile asphalt oval Saturday night was record-setting and memorable for Doran Binks Racing and driver Kody Swanson. Driving the Mission Foods No. 77, the seven-time series champion led all 100 laps of the feature to extend his record for the driver with the most USAC Silver Crown victories in history to 44.

Swanson lapped through sixth place, taking the checkered flag a whopping 3.907 seconds before Dakoda Armstrong, the runner-up, did the same. It was Swanson’s fourth win of the year, and it extended both Swanson and Doran Binks Racing’s lead in the point standings.

It was a team effort. The Doran Binks crew made numerous changes to their Lanci Ford-powered car to trim 0.295 seconds from the best lap they ran in Friday’s practice sessions to the 18.019-second lap Swanson put down in qualifying on Saturday. That was an automatic new track record and it extended his record as the driver with the most poles in series history to 52. It was the team’s fifth pole so far this year.

The pressure was intense for the first half of the race. Defending champion Logan Seavey, who started second, was only 0.457 seconds behind Swanson when the first of two caution flags waved on lap nine. That yellow lasted for three laps and it flew after the eighth-place driver, Kaylee Bryson, had a mechanical issue.

Seavey was 0.670 seconds behind Swanson at the one-quarter mark, but Swanson had a 1.023-second lead when the final caution flew on lap 29 when Nathan Moore spun and hit the Turn 1 wall after contact with Tyler Roahrig.

Armstrong took second from Seavey on that restart but Seavey got him back on the following lap, lap 33. They were all still close to Swanson’s car, which is also sponsored by Glenn Farms and Wilke Orthodontics, and on lap 35 Swanson’s advantage was only 0.32 seconds. He set the fastest lap of anyone in the race on lap 36 with a time of 18.223 seconds, however.

Armstrong passed Seavey for second again on lap 42. While they were battling, Swanson increased his lead to over 1 second by lap 43. He was 1.202 seconds ahead of Armstrong at the halfway point.

The margin dropped to about half a second around lap 60, but it was back to a full second five laps later. Swanson was 1.302 seconds ahead of Armstrong on lap 75, and then he was able to pad his lead to over 2 seconds by lap 83 and over 3 seconds by lap 89. He was 4.255 seconds ahead on lap 97.

Following Swanson, Armstrong, and Seavey at the checkered were Taylor Ferns in fourth and Bobby Santos III in fifth. C.J. Leary, Justin Grant, Nathan Byrd, Kyle Steffens and Trey Osborne rounded out the top 10.

It was the 15th different track where Swanson has won a USAC Silver Crown race, another all-time record.

“The car was pretty good,” Swanson said in victory lane. “The handling went away a little halfway through, but not enough to keep us from winning. It’s a fun track. I appreciate the work of the Doran Binks team, the support of our sponsors, and for all the people who came out tonight.”

Swanson had competed at Jennerstown only once before, as he drove a late model here in 2021. Another member of the Doran Binks team, David Doran, drove in ASA stock car races here in the past.

Swanson is a native of Kingsburg, Calif., who now lives in Indianapolis. Doran Binks Racing is headquartered in Lebanon, Ohio.

Swanson and Doran Binks Racing had a 31-point advantage in the point standings over Justin Grant and Hemelgarn Racing going into Jennerstown, 423 to 392. They left Pennsylvania with a 55-point edge, 499 points to 444.

This coming weekend is huge for the series, as it has a race at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill., on Friday, Aug. 16 and another one the following day at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill. The series closes out the month with a race at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Ill., on Saturday, Aug. 31. The entire 14-race schedule can be found at usacracing.com.

The USAC Silver Crown series’ races are streamed live by Flo Racing.
